Nancy Tavares is the author of Chicken Coop Chaos and A Chicken Coop Chaos Christmas. She grew up in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, in a family of educators. She spent vacations as a child at her grandparents' dairy farm in Pennsylvania where she gathered eggs among the chickens, rabbits, and even a peacock in the coop. These memories inspired her book.
As a former reading-support teacher at Rick Marcotte Central School in South Burlington, Vermont, Nancy taught reading and writing to students for 30 years, She spent her career helping young readers find the right book to spark their curiosity.
Nancy began dreaming of publishing her own writing and art as early as elementary school, and after nearly a decade of shaping the stories that became the Chicken Coop Chaos series, she finally brought Pearl, the hen and her hectic henhouse to life. Nancy lives in Vermont, where she draws on the rural landscape around her to create books she hopes will do the same for young readers that her own parents once did for her: spark a lifelong love of reading, and create a bit of fun for parents and kids to share together.
